From Idea to Reality: The Evolution of Eed Care Foundation

Sri Lanka is currently going through a severe economic crisis and there are 6-10 million people need humanitarian assistance, according to UNICEF and University of Peradeniya. Over 2.2 million children and students need support to continue their education, while there are 60,000-70,000 children under five years with severe acute malnutrition (SAM). High cost of school stationaries and other supplies, high cost of food items, transport and medicines have resulted in heavy burden on the average low income family which has created sense of helplessness, insecurity and trauma for children.

In this background, Mr. Susil Perera with years of experience working in the Humanitarian and Development sectors both locally and internationally particularly with the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, saw the challenges faced by low income families and how they struggle to support children to continue education. He invited likeminded people namely, Mr. Neranjan Sebadeera, Mr. Edwin Ragal, Prof. Senevirathna Bandara, Mr.Ananda Uyanwatta and Dr. Sarath Wijesinghe to join hands to establish the Eed Care Foundation with the aim of helping vulnerable children in the Kandy district.
